THREE FAMILY BEACH VACATIONS

One of my favorite places in the world is the Fairmont Kea Lani Hotel and Villas in Wailea, Maui. Rising like a Moorish palace over the landscape, the hotel's grounds slope to the sea and the marvelous Polo Beach.
The main building consists of 419 one-bedroom suites, with a sleeper sofa in the living room area, a large TV and video player, a stereo system and a kitchenette with fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The bedroom has a smaller television; both rooms open onto a very large furnished balcony.
The bathrooms in these units are unbelievably elegant, with a huge steeping tub, a marble counter, separate stall shower. The design of the units is unique; all curves and angles, melding deep, luxurious wood finishes with soothing neutral colors in the fabrics and carpets.

Below the main buildings are 37 one, two, or three bedroom villas, fronting the ocean. Each villa comes complete with a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and a private plunge pool.
Aside from the beautiful and elegant accommodations, the Keiki Lani Club for children aged five to 12 makes this a perfect family destination. The club is open from 9:00AM to 3:00PM and includes native Hawaiian crafts, sports, nature hikes and other activities. Package rates can also include the Keiki Lani Club.
DEL CORONDADO HOTEL, SAN DIEGO

San Diego, California, is a perfect family get-away destination. With the world-famous San Diego Zoo, the San Diego Wild Animal Park (my favorite), Seaworld, the Navy Shipyards, the Little Red Trolley to take you to Tijuana, proximity to Disneyland, beautiful beaches and the best year-round weather in the United States, it's hard to beat.
Although the area abounds with elegant, upscale accommodation, there is one place that stands alone: The inimitable, historic, beautiful Hotel Del Coronado.
The Del, as it is affectionately known, sits on 33 acres on an island in San Diego Bay, accessed by a bridge from the city. The original structure, built in 1888, is the oldest standing wood-frame hotel in the United States. Filled with Victorian charm, no two rooms are alike in this section. There is also a new ocean tower for those who want more modern surroundings, and air conditioning, which the older portion does not provide.
The resort itself has 692 guest accommodations ranging from rooms with no views to apartment-style units and even a two-bedroom, three-bath cottage on the beach.
The best of The Del, however, is its activities for families. From its Kids Club to its two pools, its beach and its six lighted oceanfront tennis courts, and five varied restaurants, you never have to leave the property. Even golf is just a short walk away. There are also separate men's and women's spa facilities, boat and bicycle rentals, entertainment and special holiday events. It is a charming and delightful family get-away.
KIAWAH ISLAND RESORT
Kiawah Island Resort, located in South Carolina, is another ideal family destination. Although the lodging is splendid, it is but a small portion of the experience a vacation here can provide. The resort offers 500 accommodations ranging from 150

This 10,000 acre island is a natural paradise, with 10 miles of beach, four world class golf courses, and an unbelieveable array of nature activities for the whole family.
Whether you stay in a villa or home with kitchen facilities or choose a room in the Inn, the resort's five restaurants and food court will appeal to all ages.
There are so many activities here that it's like summer camp for both adults and children... biking, nature walks, tennis and golf, beachcombing, canoeing, birding, fishing... a truly wonderful family vacation experience.
