The Cardozo This is one of those Deco landmarks that has earned its celebrity honestly... it's owned by Gloria and Emilio Estefan. It also featured prominently in "Something About Mary," but the real charm here is the revved-up music in the lobby and the total vibe. The 44 rooms and seven suites are decorated with items from Ms. Estefan's world tours, have great huge bathrooms and many have terrific views of the beach and the Ocean Drive / SoBe scene.

The Delano White. Chic and classy white, typical of the Ian Schraeger/Phillipe Starck collaborations that have enthralled visitors on both U.S. coasts and have made their mark in London, too. The Delano, with 238 "rooms, suites, lofts and bungalows," a rooftop women-only bathouse and solarium, a full fitness center, The Blue Door restaurant, and the glitteratti of stage, screen, books and haute couture with whom to rub elbows, proves again that style and class will always win out. OK, it's pricey, but it's like going out for a great meal: You don't do it EVERY day, but you have to try it at least once.

The Hotel of South Beach The rooftop sign still says "The Tiffany" because it's a landmark and can't be removed, but The Hotel is all newly redone. The only U.S. hotel to have been refurbished by an American designer, the playfulness of Todd Oldham is evident throughout this supremely located wonderful Deco gem. The restaurant, Wish, is not only beautiful, but has garnered awards in most culinary categories.

The Pelican This isn't just your ordinary Ocean Drive Deco hotel, no sir. This one is really, really weird. Owned and managed by the Diesel folks, this little 30-room and two-suite hotel is a Disneyworld for grown-ups, a step back in time, an amalgam of sensory experience. It's a trend-setting theme hotel with rooms named "Some Like It Wet" and "Best Whorehouse." The Penthouse units are right out of Fantasyland, and the streetfront restaurant isn't just a great peoplewatching spot, the food is good, too. PHOTO ALBUM

The Tides The largest hotel on the Ocean Drive strip, this cool and trendy property is the showplace of the Island Outpost hotel group, Chris Blackwell's (of Island Records) brainchild. As big as it is, the hotel has only 45 rooms, but boy, are they huge. The smallest one is 550 square feet, and all are oceanfront, all come equipped with telescopes. Topless sunbathing is allowed at the pool; small dogs are welcomed.
